The Gaggia Story

It all started with a revolutionary idea. In 1938,
Achilles Gaggia patented a unique design for the first piston lever
commercial espresso machine, in which a powerful jet of hot water would replace steam during the brewing process. His ingenious idea of forcing water under great pressure to flow through the coffee grounds produced the first
“crema” that has now made espresso coffee world famous.
After almost 40 years of success catering to the commercial market, Gaggia revolutionized the industry once again by launching the first household
pump-driven espresso machine in 1977, appropriately named the
“Baby Gaggia”. |

The Zuccarini Story
Canada’s very first espresso machine (similar to the one
pictured here) arrived in Toronto in 1954 when
Giacomo Zuccarini opened the “Sidewalk Café” at Yonge
and College. So began the initial distribution of the Gaggia
line in Canada, and the inception of Zuccarini Importing
Company Ltd., Canada’s original importer of fine Italian
espresso and bar equipment for home, office and commercial use.
